Rick Holaday met Patty in the summer of 1972 just before he started high school and they became great friends, remaining friends throughout high school, when life took them on different paths. A few years later those paths were led back together and it became clear that the two paths would become one. At that time, neither of us knew it would be the narrow path, but, Praise God, He did.
Rick always was a cowboy, working as a buckaroo in Nevada, California and Oregon. Then, he started training cutting horses with several trainers in California and Oregon. In June of 1994, he became a Christian Cowboy when he gave his life to the Lord at a camp meeting he attended with David Simmons. Rick thought a camp meeting was a bunch of cowboys getting together, but God knew this was a way to draw Rick to Him. Within a year, the whole family was attending church and was baptized on Easter Sunday. Traveling with several mature Christians, David and Kathleen Simmons among them, we and our kids were soon on the road going to rodeos, ropings, and any other events we could get to, sharing the Gospel in Cowboy Church services or just by talking to everyone we could. Traveling together 10 hours, through the night, to hold church before a rodeo then 10 hours home gave us the opportunity to be well discipled. Rick now holds Cowboy Church services at the west coast ropings, along with guest speaking and teaching at local events and churches. Schooled through Rhema, we were honored to be ordained at Cowboy Church Ministries in Weatherford, Texas.
